Trip Report - Sweden Part 3, Grona Lund and Stockholm
Last time I visited Grona Lund we left on a sour note because my bunny died whilst we were there, so I was determined to go and have an amazing time on this visit. We were also visiting in the evening this time because we'd been told this is truly when the place comes to life - they weren't wrong!
The park is situated right on the harbour in Stockholm and, similarly to Liseberg, has a classic theme but this time it's more a mixture of art deco and fifties Americana as opposed to Victoriana. The park is absolutely stunning, and at night even more so. The twinkly funfair lights look stunning and every inch of space is used - there's even a fairly sizeable wooden coaster crammed into an impossible footprint.
Honestly, the coasters here aren't amazing and I sat out of a lot because my back was playing up, but the environment is electric to be in so I was just happy to sit out and soak it all in! My favourite part of Grona Lund is the mesh of coasters where Jetline, the park's Schwarzkopf and Vilda Musen, a custom Gerstlauer Bobsled collide in a tangle of pastel steel. I couldn't stop taking pictures of it, it's so satisfying to look at!
Funny House is the epitome of incredible and weird European fun houses, and ends with an epic slide complete with on-ride photo! Another must-do, if only to laugh at everybody struggling with the moving staircase to gain access to the attraction in the first place. Fun houses are designed to make you laugh at all of the ridiculous things within, and none do it better than this one!
We spent the rest of the evening enjoying some food and taking in the atmosphere before navigating the roads of Stockholm and going back to our hotel before one last day taking in the sights of Stockholm and heading home.
I fucking LOVE Sweden. The coaster selection, whilst not particularly large, is excellent and the parks are amazingly high quality and gorgeous. I can't wait until the next trip!
